Getting Set Up
Welcome to Mantis! This guide will help you get started quickly so you can explore, analyze, and make discoveries with your data.
1. Sign Up & Log In
- Visit the Mantis platform:
Go to https://home.withmantis.com/inquire and fill out the form. - Sign up using your email:
Go to https://mantisdev.csail.mit.edu/ and sign up using the same email address as the one provided in the form. - Access the workspace:
Once logged in, you’ll land in your Mantis dashboard or home screen.
2. Joining or Creating a Space
- Join an existing space:
Click on any space to explore! - Create a new space:

4. Exploring Your Space
- Use the map:
Once your space is set up, you’ll see your data displayed on the Map.
Pan, zoom, and click on points to inspect your data visually. - Try selection tools:
Use lasso, rectangle, or click-select to explore and group points. - Check other panels:
Open panels like Tree, Categories, Plots, and Bags to filter, compare, and analyze your data.
5. Saving & Sharing
IMPORTANT
Saving your work: Mantis automatically saves your space as you work—no manual saving is necessary.
Sharing with others: Invite collaborators or share your space by clicking the “Share” or “Invite” button and entering their email address.
6. Help & Support
- Tooltips:
Hover over icons and menu items for quick explanations. - Guided tours:
Many spaces include walkthroughs or tutorials—look for the “Tour” or “Help” buttons. - Contact support:
If you’re stuck, use the in-app chat or support email provided on the platform.
Tips for New Users
- Start by exploring the map—click around and try different selection tools.
- Use the Bags panel to save and compare interesting groups of points.
- Don’t hesitate to try out the Plots and Feature Analysis panels for deeper insights.
- Check out the Narrator or Agents panel for summaries, suggestions, or help in plain English.
