Magic Lasso

Overview

Magic Lasso builds on standard lasso selection by automatically including points that are similar or contextually related to your initial selection. It leverages Mantis’s understanding of semantic or feature-based proximity to help users gather coherent groups, even when boundaries are not visually obvious.

Purpose

  • Quickly assemble groups of points that are related in meaning or data space, not just position.
  • Reduce manual effort when targeting complex or fuzzy clusters.
  • Discover hidden connections beyond what’s visible on the map.

How to Use

  • Select Magic Lasso from the toolbar or menu.
  • Draw a freeform shape as you would with standard lasso.
  • After drawing, Mantis analyzes your selection and may automatically extend it to include contextually similar points.
  • The full, “expanded” group is highlighted—ready for bagging, analysis, or inspection.

Tips

  • Use Magic Lasso when exploring clusters with soft or non-obvious boundaries.
  • Let Mantis do the work of including semantically similar points for richer groupings.
  • Review the expanded selection to ensure it matches your analytical intent.
